Alzheimer’s Dementia International Conference

In April 2026, Clinical Psychologist Rachel Pendry travelled to Lyon to share the inspiring outcomes of the Dementia Carers Education Programme — a collaborative initiative created by Fife Carers Centre, Alzheimer Scotland, STAND, NHS Fife, and the Fife Health & Social Care Partnership.

This 14 week programme offers dementia carers a safe, supportive space to learn, connect, and build confidence. Sessions include managing carer stress, the power of music in dementia, and a unique multi professional workshop bringing together experts from podiatry, oral health, audiology, physiotherapy, and bowel and bladder services. Each element is designed to strengthen carers’ wellbeing and equip them with practical tools for everyday life.
The programme’s ambition is simple but vital: to widen access so that many more of the thousands of carers across Fife can benefit from this life changing support.

Thanks to Fife Health Charity funding, the programme has been able to grow its reach and raise its profile. The abstract from the Lyon presentation has now been submitted to the NHS Scotland Conference in Glasgow this September. If selected, it will create further opportunities to share learning, influence good practice, and inspire similar work across other health boards and organisations.
