The Department of Spiritual Care cares for The Haven within Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy—a welcoming, multi-faith sanctuary and quiet space for reflection. It offers a peaceful environment for people of all faiths, as well as those with no particular belief. Open to the entire hospital community, The Haven provides comfort and respite for patients, families, staff, volunteers, and visitors alike.
With the generous support of two small grants from Fife Health Charity, the final stages of The Haven’s refurbishment have been completed. This funding enabled the installation of LED ceiling panels and bespoke benches, furnishings, and artwork. Together, these enhancements create a calming atmosphere, evoking the tranquillity of an outdoor meadow within an indoor setting.
This transformation has been made possible through the leadership of the Spiritual Care Team and the collaborative efforts, shared commitment, and generosity of NHS Fife, Equans, Consort, the Friends of Kirkcaldy Hospital, and Fife Health Charity. Their collective vision has brought new life to The Haven, ensuring it remains a place of peace, comfort, and inclusion for all.
I am delighted by the co-operation across different organisations and the support we have found, not least from Fife Health Charity who have welcomed our application and responded so positively throughout. The Haven is now fit for purpose and also a place of calm and welcome.
