Supporting Fife wide Cancer education.
The provision of a one-year subscription to cancer education live and recorded webinars by cancer academic David O’ Halloran was granted by Fife Health Charity between (September 2024 – August 2025) by virtue of meeting two key outcomes outlined in the grant application; these were improved patient experience and to increase staff knowledge and skills for the benefit of patients.
A small grant of £2,500 gave staff access to learning over the time period and a total of 90 staff registered for 335 courses.
Outcomes were met as follows:
So so helpful for all staff, and brilliantly explained at the right level. Several light bulb moments re: the physical spread of the condition, and metastases etc. Melanoma - a great update for me in my clinical role.
Murdina MacDonald, Lead Cancer Nurse explains more about the practicalities of this delivery method for training.
The grant enabled a flexible, evidence-based learning offer that reached a broad multidisciplinary workforce, including non-registered staff, at a time of increasing service pressure and clinical complexity. Improved staff confidence, greater consistency of information, and strengthened understanding of cancer pathways align closely with the ambitions of Scotland’s Cancer Strategy to deliver high-quality, person-centred care; and with Realistic Medicine principles by supporting informed, proportionate decision-making with patients. Importantly, the strong preference for recorded learning reflects current workforce realities and underlines the value of sustainable education models that protect learning time while maintaining safe care delivery.
Overall, this investment demonstrates how relatively modest funding can deliver meaningful system-level impact by strengthening capability, resilience, and safety across cancer services.
Really enjoyed them and in fact have wanted to go back and watch again/continue watching others […]. Thought the way David explained things was excellent and helped me describe things better to Dietetic students too.
