All too often our Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services Team see children who have experienced single event or developmental trauma.
Thankfully for these children, there is a therapy option known as EMDR. EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing and it is a specialist evidence-based trauma-focused therapy helping such individuals with their recovery process.
Fife Health Charity were pleased to be able to support a small grant application to allow 7 CAMHS staff to complete their specialist EMDR child training. The staff attending this training work across core CAMHs, Intensive Treatment Service and Specialist CAMHs services, providing intervention for young people and children who present with significant mental health difficulties.
This training is enabling staff to feel more confident in applying this therapy with younger children and those who present with more complex needs.
One of the goals for improving services is to ensure that children and young people have access to evidence based and good quality interventions – this is a step towards further ensuring that.
