Prior to the award of a small grant, the garden area of Mayfield Ward in Lynebank Hospital was somewhat unloved and underused.
New garden seating purchased with the help of Fife Health Charity has completely changed the space, making the ward garden a welcoming and inviting space for the patients in Mayfield who can safely spend time outside.
Patients can now spend time enjoying the garden and it gives them the opportunity to be outside with their visiting families which is particularly welcome in the warmer months. The well-chosen furniture brightens up the garden. It is robust, safe and secure which meets the needs of the patient group and it’s also durable, meaning that it will last for many years and benefit current and future patients alike.
Senior Charge Nurse Anna Bennie also points out that it’s helping to facilitate assessments for the professionals involved in patient care as they can easily observe patients participating in gardening activities and developing important social skills.
Having this new seating area in the garden makes the area more inviting for patients to spend time and do activities. It also allows for the professionals involved in patient care to facilitate assessments such as participating in gardening activities and development of social skills.
